For employees, students and third parties

By using the VPN (Virtual Private Network) connection with the computer, a connection is made through the Internet between the computer and the UT. The computer will then be on the UTnet. This enables services to be used that are only available through the UTnet. This service can be used throughout the world, provided that a connection is made with the Internet.

Because a connection is made with the UT network and the computer is therefore on the network, the following facilities can be used:

access to the majority of the University Library (UB) catalogues and databases;

outgoing mail servers of the UT: smtp.utwente.nl;

the news server news.utwente.nl (logging in using the ICT account is possible outside of the UTnet);

access to network data disks at the UT (such as the P/M disk);

access to shared folders on computers on the UTnet.

The VPN connection does not have to be requested. You can install the VPN connection yourself on your own notebook by following the manuals.

You can find more information about the costs on the rates page.

To be able to use the VPN connection, you have to have:

a working Internet connection;

a UT ICT account.

No delivery time applies to this service.

For support, use the self-service page and the manuals. Should you have any other questions or should a fault occur, please contact the Service Desk ICT.
