Working together with students in research projects

Raffaella Carloni, Associate Professor Robotics & Mechatronics

After studying for my PhD at the University of Bologna (Italy), I joined the University of Twente in 2008. I am currently an Associate Professor within Robotics & Mechatronics.

The course I teach is called Digital Control Engineering. Through lectures and practical work in the lab, I help students learn how to analyse and control multivariable dynamic systems in both continuous and discrete time domains. Robots are a clear example of the kind of dynamic system students should be able to work with by the end of the course.

My interest in Electrical Engineering comes from my passion for robotics. I am inspired by robots (e.g. care or service robots) because of their potential to enhance human life and to support human beings. I am interested in both the fundamentals and the technology of intelligent robots with the ability to cooperate and physically interact with humans or unknown environments.

The Electrical Engineering programme at the University of Twente provides a strong education aimed at training professionals who are ready for the job market. I enjoy working with the highly motivated students on my course and we collaborate on research projects by combining our expertise and ambitions. It’s a stimulating international environment!
