UT researchers appear in the media regularly. They are interviewed for an article in a newspaper, speak to journalists for a radio interview or receive a television crew to show their work on location. In 2020, University of Twente was mentioned about 6,000 times in various TV appearances, radio interviews, and articles in newspapers, magazines and on websites, on average more than 16 times a day!

Media appearances are important to the University of Twente. Scientists take an active part in the social debate on current issues and are given the opportunity to share their knowledge and expertise with a wide audience. Literally with an audience of millions, both nationally and internationally. From time to time, interesting new contacts arise from media appearances; a potential collaboration partner or supplier who would like to work with a novel technology.

The Marketing & Communications department closely monitors the media appearances of UT staff. Sometimes, the press officers are actively involved in generating media attention, for example by distributing a press release, establishing contacts with the media or providing media training.
