Studium Generale - Darwin on a chip

As the conventional computer is about to reach its physical limits, scientists are looking for new ways of computing. Nature can be a source of inspiration, since evolution resulted in the most advanced ‘computer’ of the universe: the human brain, capable of complex and parallel processing. The evolutionary process can be simulated on a microchip with gold nanoparticles. In half an hour they can be configured to carry out computational operations.

Prof.dr.ir. Wilfred van der Wiel, full professor nano-electronics at the UT, experiments with evolutionary microchips to make more powerful, energy-saving and robust computers.

Tuesday 16 February, 19.30-21.00 hours.

Vrijhof/Amphitheatre.

In cooperation with Inter-Actief, Astatine en Arago.
