Saturday 23 june: open house at the University of Twente

On Saturday 23 June the University of Twente opens its doors to anyone curious to take a look behind the scenes in science. UT students and researchers will give workshops, demonstrations and tours through renowned laboratories such as the NanoLab, the Robotics Lab, the Technical Medical Centre and the Virtual Reality Lab. Between 11am and 4pm children, youngsters and adults alike can perform experiments – or be blown away by the Windtunnel!

Student teams

UT students are known for competing at an international level with a solar-powered car (Solar Team Twente), a solar-powered boat (Solar Boat Twente) and an electric racing bike (Electric Superbike Twente). The Open House is an opportunity for the public to meet the teams, and see the cars and boats close up.

Science that makes the world a healthier, more sustainable and safer place

Visitors can discover some of the latest developments in robotics: de Lopes, for instance, a robot that helps people with walking difficulties to rehabilitate. They can also visit the surgical robotics lab, or meet a friendly robot receptionist.

From chemistry experiments, code-breaking and simulator-riding to a journey around the world and sensors that detect stress in plants, a wealth of different activities give an excellent impression of the many ways that UT students and staff are helping to make the world a healthier, more sustainable and safer place.

Labs

Tours will be given around some of the university’s renowned laboratories – from getting a closer look at virtual worlds in the Virtual Reality & Smart Industry Lab, activities in the DesignLab and training facilities for doctors in the TechMed Lab to the spectacular world of the very smallest nanoparticles in the MESA+ NanoLab.

The Open House will also host the finale of the RED Engineers Challenge, held in the Waaier. This Challenge, organized by the University of Twente and Saxion University of Applied Sciences, is an invention and design competition for children in their final two years of primary school.
