De opening is part of the UT Twente Science Night

Design 'Made in Twente'

How does a great idea become a finished product? Students from the Industrial Product Designs (Saxion) and Industrial Designs (University of Twente) educational programmes offer a special insight into the design world during Twents Design. It is this exhibition's tenth anniversary and it is held at the Wilminktheater in Enschede for the second year in a row. It was previously held in the Bijenkorf, also in Enschede.

During this exhibition, to which admission is free, the design assignments can be visited daily. See with your own eyes in what way the students use their technical knowledge and creativity to design innovative consumer products. The products are functional, forward-looking, beautifully crafted and suited to the target audience.

From a recumbent touring bicycle to a street piano and from a wooden solar desk light to a mestrobot

During Twents Design, you can see approximately 20 consumer products in all shapes and sizes, which in many cases have been developed during an internship assignment for a company.

A small selection of the objects:

  • A recumbent touring bicycle with three wheels especially designed for covering long distances (Kristian Domhof, Saxion)
  •  Street piano; keyboard with acoustic drum and option to plug in electrical instruments and connect to the public space (Judith Vissers, UT)
  • Wooden solar desk light, designed for children without access to electricity. Easy to assemble (Han de Jong, UT)
  • Mestrobot (Pieter Jan Duits, Saxion)

Opening night: Honouring instigators and listening to students

During the opening night on 2 October, UT professor Arthur Eger and Saxion's Karin van Beurden, the two instigators of Twents Design, will be put in the limelight. Eger recently bade farewell to the UT with a design exposition in Museum TwentseWelle. Mirjam Bult, vice president of the UT Executive Board since 1 October, will do the honours.

On the opening night on 2 October, two students will talk about their passion: designing. They will talk about their ideas, dreams, the design phase and about their products, of course.
