As of 1 December, Peter Smits will leave the University of Twente. At the moment, Peter is the Director of Campus & Facility Management at UT.
Peter on his departure: "What seemed like a wonderful job was in practice even more fun and interesting in real life than I had expected. Great challenges for CFM, a campus that is growing, and many plans for construction. I was given a warm welcome by my CFM colleagues, the Management Team, the Executive Board, and my fellow directors. In short, it was a great start to working happily. However, being alone a lot and traveling on weekends turned out to be something I cannot get used to. I miss – even more than I had expected – my home base. In fact, my social life has come to a halt since 1 June 2022. There is no healthy balance between my work and my private life anymore, and moving to Twente permanently is not an option. After many discussions, a lot of deliberating, and a smile and a tear I have decided to submit my resignation."
The Executive Board regrets that Peter will be leaving UT so soon, but understands the considerations that led this difficult choice. In the upcoming period, the Executive Board will look at the Peter's succession in co-operation with Peter and the CFM management team.
