THE TECHNOLOGY IN AN APPLICATION MAKES A HUGE DIFFERENCE TO THE USER

Dennis Reidsma, assistant professor and lecturer

Dennis Reidsma is an Assistant Professor with the University of Twente’s Human Media Interaction research group and a Lecturer on the Creative Technology curriculum. He is deeply involved in both shaping and teaching the curriculum. He develops and teaches several courses and supervises a number of BSc, MSc, and PhD students on topics relating to computational entertainment and interactive playgrounds. Occasionally he delivers guest lectures at PhD summer schools.

“I have always had an interest in interaction with natural language. From there it was a small step to multimodal interaction, embodied interaction and entertainment applications, in other words the world of Interaction Technology.

I love my job. On the educational side, I get to offer guidance to a bunch of talented students, to listen carefully to what they need and to challenge them to develop their own ideas. In research I have the opportunity to create applications that make a real impact, to explain why the technology in an application makes such a huge difference to a user and to explore a wide range of domains and user contexts.

The University of Twente is a vibrant place to study, because of the way it combines high-tech and human touch. Its emphasis on the human side of the sciences enriches its technical research enormously.”
