Study at two European universities with the EIT double degree in Human Computer Interaction and Design.
If you are interested in the field of human-computer interaction, combined with innovation and entrepreneurship, you can also opt for the double degree programme in Human Computer Interaction and Design with Extended Reality (HCID/XR) of the EIT Digital Master School. This international programme, starting in September, entails two years and allows you to study one year – either the first or the second – at the University of Twente and one year abroad at one of the following partner universities:
Upon completion, you will receive two Master’s degrees.
Just like the Master’s in Interaction Technology, the HCID/XR double degree programme focuses on the study, design, development and evaluation of novel user interfaces and interactive systems. Hereby taking into account human aspects at the cognitive and sensory-motor levels, technological aspects, and business aspects, with a focus on creating the next generation of immersive technologies. Thanks to the minor in Innovation and Entrepreneurship, this programme has a strong focus on how to drive innovative ideas to the market, making this programme slightly different from the Master’s in Interaction Technology, in which you have more freedom to choose any focus, whether it’s more on the entrepreneurial, design, technology or research side, for example.
The two-year programme includes a technical major – along with a master’s thesis and an Innovation and Entrepreneurship minor. You will start the Master's at an entry university of your choice, partly dependent on your technical background. After completing the first year, you will move to your exit university, somewhere else in Europe. All classes are taught fully in English. The University of Twente is an entry and exit university, which means you can study either the first or second year at the University of Twente.
If you decide to start the EIT double degree programme at the University of Twente, you will take five (mandatory) core courses, which provide an introduction to the field and have similar learning goals as courses of the other entry universities. Moreover, you will follow both mandatory and elective courses within the minor in Innovation and Entrepreneurship (I&E) and you can choose three elective courses of the Master’s in Interaction Technology.

The second year of the EIT double degree programme is all about specialising. If you choose to spend your second year at the University of Twente, you have the opportunity to specialise in Intelligent Interaction in XR. It means you will gain expertise in artificial intelligence in order to design, prototype, and evaluate rich human-computer interactions in extended reality (XR) by leveraging AI capabilities, for example to enable more human-like natural language interactions between users and virtual characters or by using multi-agent systems to generate emergent and adaptive behaviours by groups of actors in virtual environments.
Intelligent Interaction brings XR and intelligent systems together to create experiences that are interactive, adaptive, and meaningfully human-centred; with applications in domains such as healthcare, training & education, emergency response, gaming, and entertainment.
Check the EIT website to see the specialisations of other universities.
Your second year at the University of Twente consists of some (elective) courses and you will complete your EIT double degree with your final master’s thesis.
