Hoe overleef ik het MedTech implementatie avontuur? Van idee naar medisch product.

Na mijn opleiding Industrial Design Engineering in Delft werkte ik 12 jaar in de maakindustrie bij Koninklijke Olland als ontwerper en manager R&D aan de elektronische en mechanische ontwikkeling van drankenautomaten. Daarna werkte ik 11 jaar als new business director bij industrieel ontwerpbureau WeLL Design waar ik de ontwikkeling van voedings-dispensers begeleidde voor multinationals als Heineken, Heinz en Unilever. 10 Jaar geleden maakte ik de switch naar de medische markt en begon ik bij Pontes Medical in het UMC Utrecht. Ik kan hier mijn technische ontwikkelkennis en commerciële vaardigheden goed combineren voor de ontwikkeling van medische hulpmiddelen en apparaten. Ook draag ik met ons team bij aan het ontwikkelen van de nieuwe Pontes innovatiemethode die plaats vindt in het ziekenhuis en waarbij we de klinische, technische en commerciële belangen van begin tot eind integreren.

Pontes Medical is een nieuwe innovatiemethode voor de ontwikkeling van medische hulpmiddelen op basis van ideeën van zorgverleners in ziekenhuizen. Deze methode wordt nu 10 jaar met succes toegepast in het UMC Utrecht en Amsterdam UMC door in totaal 7 innovatiemanagers. De projecten worden lokaal in de ziekenhuizen uitgevoerd. De kracht van het platform van ziekenhuizen is dat we de kennis van de methode en onze netwerken delen. Er vindt kruisbestuiving plaats en we doen geen dingen dubbel.

Esther Spanjer-ter Braack obtained her master degree in Technical Medicine (Medical Sensing & Stimulation). After that, Esther started her PhD project at the department of Clinical Neurophysiology of the University of Twente, focussing on combining transcranial magnetic stimulation and electroencephalography in epilepsy. Since 2016 she works as a Clinical Research Specialist at DEMCON advanced mechatronics, where she coordinates and performs clinical validation studies and clinical evaluations for the medical devices that are developed at the company.

Lisette is full professor Persuasive Health Technology. She coordinates the Health Research Domain from Technical Medicine Centre of the University of Twente. She has a long-term expertise in the area of persuasive & personalized coaching using empathic monitoring technologies, and in the establishment of a smart European knowledge infrastructure for design and implementation of eLearning-concepts in HealthCare (blended care; virtual reality). She is involved in the establishment of the Sustainable Healthcare Technology implementation program. Lisette is the editor of the book ‘eHealth Research, Theory and Development, a multidisciplinary approach, a textbook for ehealth students and professionals. She developed with her lab the eHealth MOOC, a massive online Instructional Technology to train students and professionals.

The lab persuasive health technology (Center eHealth Research & Wellbeing) focuses on personalized healthcare supported by technology. We apply a holistic approach to develop successful and engaging eHealth technologies and we study the effects and impact of these technologies on society, communities, and individuals. In this, we take into account the “whole human being” in the context of living and working. Our research is interdisciplinary based, rooted in persuasive psychology, engineering, and implementation science. We study and build on the interplay of technology, human life, and society.
