Borrow books & articles

All books, articles and other items in the collection of the University of Twente are indexed in FindUT (direct access). Via this 'discovery tool' you can search and borrow items, as well as extend their loan period. To check the status of the items you are borrowing, login to your personal account in FindUT (direct access) . The physical book collection of the University of Twente is partly displayed in open stacks at the Vrijhof location of the University Library. The rest of the physical collection is placed in a closed depot in the Vrijhof. Mandatory literature for study programmes can often be found at Educafés, and can be borrowed via affiliated study associations.   • Find print books & articles

    To find a book and check if is available to University of Twente staff and students perform a search in FindUT (direct access). Filter your search results using the options on the left side of the screen. By default, you only see literature that University of Twente staff and students have direct access to. Check 'Libraries Worldwide' to see all literature indexed in this database.  

  • Request print books & articles

    In your list of search results in FindUT,  the blue view-buttons indicate that the book or article can be accessed online. When a blue view-button is not shown, click on the title of the book or article and do one of the following on the specific page for this work:  

    • If a blue request-button shows up in the section about the specific book or article, click on it to either borrow directly or to ask for a reservation if the book or article is out on loan 
    • If a blue request-button does not show up in the section about the specific book or article, click on 'Library Links' > 'Options (e.g. ILL) in the upper right corner that redirects you to the Ways to access to literature page  
  • Pick up requested print books & articles

    In the process of requesting a book or article you can choose a location where you'd like to pick up the item. Please pick up the requested item there, after you have received an email notification about its delivery.  

    • At the Vrijhof and ITC locations of the University Library requested items be can be picked up during opening hours. You're only allowed to take the item with you after showing your staff/student card or Library Card (see Library registration & account) 
    • At the service desks of other buildings, requested items can be picked up the next working day after 12.00 A.M. (this service is available to staff only)  
  • Renew print books & articles

    The loan period of items you borrow from the University Library is four weeks. This loan period will automatically be renewed five times, provided there are no reservations by others. After your loan period has been renewed five times, you will receive an notification via email. You can then choose to either return the book or renew it manually via your FindUT account (direct access).
