Research

organizational structure

The University of Twente has five powerful research institutes that convert scientific excellence to economic industriousness and social applications. The various disciplines (nanotechnology, ICT, biomedical technology and technical medicine, governance, behavioural sciences, geo-information science and earth observation and science based engineering) are closely working together and boost each other.

Our faculties have their own research programme as well, which are divided into departments, institutes and knowledge centres. Knowledge centres are smaller in size than the institutes and have a specific expertise. You can find more information on knowledge centres on the webpages of the research institutes

Our chairs are the smallest units in the organization of research. They're always a part of both a faculty and a research institute (or multiple institutes).

Twente Graduate School and PDEng programmes support the organization of research by offering structured research programmes and eduction to PhD students.
