With Shaping2030, our Research Strategy, and our Vision on Teaching and Learning, we have defined our ambition to maximise our positive societal impact. We take our public role and responsibility regarding pressing societal challenges very seriously, and we want and need to shift our mindset even more from knowledge transfer to knowledge exchange and co-creation.
As the entrepreneurial university of technology with excellent fundamental research, challenge-driven research, education, and innovation activities, embedded in an ecosystem with (eu)regional, national, and international partners, we have all the ingredients to work impact-driven, outside-in.
Through our research, we strive to make a change for the better, especially by contributing to grand societal challenges for a healthy, safe, and climate-positive future. We cannot do this alone; we work in co-creation with our stakeholders. Impact for us includes both academic and societal impact: scientific breakthroughs can create waves in society, while society inspires and guides us in our research.
INNOVATION AT THE ENTREPRENEURIAL UNIVERSITY
Since our former rector, Harry van den Kroonenberg (photo above), introduced the 'entrepreneurial university' slogan and mindset, we have been acknowledged as' the most entrepreneurial university in the Netherlands’ several times. This entrepreneurial mindset is, for instance, recognised by our number one ranking on SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure) in the Times Higher Education Impact Ranking in 2023.
