The University of Twente is all about people: People-first is the university's mission. Its associated objectives are encouraging and retaining talent at the university and in the region, creating custom-made programmes for the development of employees, setting up a mentor system for junior staff members and finding smart ways of recruiting new employees. One of the recent results is the development of a special trainee programme for highly qualified young professionals.
The traineeship in this new form offers a combination of working and learning for two years. Trainees will gain experience in a short space of time through working in different faculties and service departments at the university. Supported by a sound training plan, a dedicated coach, and mentor, trainees will carry out research at other organisations in the region and take part in conferences and workshops.
This is an excellent opportunity for graduates – getting a taste of what the university has to offer, greatly helping their personal development, and increasing their chances of gaining a top-level position at the university or elsewhere. It also means the university is able to develop a breeding ground for future managers and specialists and to contribute towards the aim of retaining talent in the Twente area.
This new traineeship programme is in addition to existing programmes in the region, such as the Fast Forward and the Connect International Talent programmes, which are aimed primarily at HBO-level trainees.
Recruitment of young highly-qualified professionals is due to start in March 2021, with the first group of graduates starting in September next year.
