UT- spin-off SciSports goes to Silicon Valley

SciSports is the first and only Dutch scaleup selected for SEC2SV.

• 18 top European scaleups represent Europe at the Startup Europe Comes to Silicon Valley (SEC2SV) programme from 12 to 21 september.
• SciSports is the first and only Dutch scaleup selected for SEC2SV.
• SciSports raised over 1.35 million euro in investments and currently has 41 employees.

EIT Digital and Mind the Bridge have selected eighteen promising organizations for the second edition of Startup Europe Comes to Silicon Valley (SEC2SV). The Dutch scaleup SciSports is among the eighteen European enterprises selected.

The SEC2SV is the best programme for European scaleups and startups to gain a foothold in the United States. This programme brings young innovative enterprises into contact with American companies for help with sales, financing or collaboration. The CEO’s of the eighteen selected technology companies have been invited to San Francisco for a week to present their story, meet people and visit companies such as Google, Microsoft and Pinterest. The week starts at September 12th with the European Innovation Day.

Giels Brouwer, founder and CEO of SciSports, is looking forward to the week. “I’m super happy and proud that SciSports will be representing the Dutch startup scene at the prestigious SEC2SV. Brilliant minds from all over the world will gather here. With our BallJames service we are the first in the world that can generate real-time 3D data from video images of football matches. In this area, Silicon Valley is thé place to learn from the world’s best. We hope to find new partners at the event who can help us with international expansion and are looking for partners with expertise in deep learning, computer vision, sports analytics or media.”

“It is fantastic to see that our country, as the third fastest growing startup ecosystem in Europa, brings forth leading scaleups such as SciSports. Their participation at SEC2SV shows that the bridge between Europe and the Bay Area ecosystem creates new values and jobs for both continents”, says Patrick Essers, director of the Dutch branch of EIT Digital in Eindhoven.

Marco Marinucci, CEO of Mind the Bridge, which organises SEC2SV together with EIT Digital, expects another good yield. “Last year we already saw impressive results. The Spanish JobandTalent for example raised 42 million dollars and Mosaicoon from Italy 8 million. I expect something similar from this year’s delegation.”

In Silicon Valley, established partner organisations have proposed candidates for this programme. The final selection is made by a group investors consisting of Startup Europe Partnership (SEP) and American investors. This is the second SEC2SV ever and SciSports is the first Dutch scaleup selected for this prestigious event. Other scaleups in the Benelux are Awingu from Belgium and Etix Everywhere from Luxembourg. From the EIT Digital accelator programme, Firstbeat from Finland, Negentis from Italy and the Swedish Gleechi are selected.
