Now that the end of the year is slowly approaching, some of our open access (OA) agreements with scientific publishers are reaching their caps. This means that the maximum number of articles that can be published OA at full discount each year has been reached. If your manuscript is accepted for publication between the time the maximum is reached and 1 January 2026, the publisher will still offer OA publication, but the cost will no longer be covered by the publishing agreement during this period. You will receive an invoice.
If you want to stay updated on this matter, you can sign up for a notify-me emailing service that will inform you exactly when a cap is reached. Below, you will find an overview of the current status of capped deals, but the service will inform you more accurately (once the cap is approaching and once it has been reached).
If you are confronted with a capped deal, the following alternatives are available:
- publishing without immediate OA and making your publication openly available via the UT repository after six months (OA procedural regulations);
- finding alternative funding via your project budget, department budget, or faculty OA fund (only available at BMS);
If you are not sure about these options, or in doubt whether your article will get accepted in time to get the discount, please contact the information specialist of your faculty to discuss alternative options.
