Sustainability meets Well Being: try out the new sewing machines at the Chameleon Room!

Two second hand sewing machines are now available at the Chameleon room, thanks to a wonderful partnership between Green Hub Twente, the University Library, and SWIP. This means students and staff at UT can now enjoy free access to two sewing machines, perfect for quilting, mending, or trying out a new hobby. Whether you're a beginner or a seasoned stitcher, you can use the machine at the Chameleon Room in the Library on a first-come, first-served basis, without worrying about the cost of buying your own. Would you like to contribute to other projects than your own? You can also join a sewing project for a school in Kenya.

Mark your calendar for October 6th, 2025, when this fantastic addition will officially launch during sustainability week.

What will be available:
Access to two sturdy PFAFF Sewing Machines;

A fully stocked sewing kit with threads, bobbins, scissors (for thread and fabrics only), measuring tape, seam ripper, needle threader, hand sewing needles, thimble, and various presser feet.

What to bring for your own project:
You can bring your own sewing or mending project. We recommend cutting your pieces ahead of time and bringing instructions with you. If you’re altering clothing, come with a plan for the changes you want to make.

Kenya school project:
If you’d like, you’re also welcome to join us in a collaboration with a school in Kenya. In many communities, girls drop out of school because they don’t have access to pads during their periods. To support them, you can help sew reusable pads, which we’ll send to the school. All materials and instructions will be provided.

Enjoy exploring your creativity with this new resource, happy sewing!
