NAME: Ana
COUNTRY OF ORIGIN: Romania
Bachelor's: technical computer science

I really wanted to experience a multicultural community where I could develop my skills both socially and academically.

Hello, everyone! My name is Ana, I am 20 years old and I am from Timișoara, Romania. I am currently in the second year of my Technical Computer Science Bachelor. I chose this programme since I love how computer science combines algorithmic thinking with abstract thinking. Another plus for me was the fact that I love mathematics.

Why international?

Since I was little I was always interested in travelling and seeing as much of the world as possible. Since I spent 12 years in the Romanian education system, I wanted to see what Western Europe had to offer. This way, I could travel, but also continue my studies at a University that offers high-quality education.

Why the University of Twente?

One of the main things that drew me to this university was the teacher-student relationship that it promotes. Throughout my first year, I was never scared of going to one of my teachers and asking for guidance or further explanations regarding what was being taught. Also, I really like the hands-on approach to learning. From my point of view, it is way easier to understand the logic of different systems when you have to write the code by yourself and can ask questions as you go.

Living in Enschede?

Living here as an international has been, so far, a great experience. The Romanian community here is impressively big and all other internationals are very friendly and kind. The biggest fear I had was regarding the language barrier between me and Dutch people, since I did not have any time to learn dutch before moving here. But, gladly, I found out that a big part of the dutch population actually speaks fluent English. Another fun fact is that you can also communicate with them in German.
