Enrolment restrictions for Technical Computer Science

Starting in the 2022-2023 academic year, University of Twente’s Bachelor’s degree programme in Technical Computer Science (TCS) will have an enrolment restriction of 400 students. This decision was made necessary by the enormous popularity and growth of the programme.

Information technology at the University of Twente has undergone tremendous growth in recent years, and students are lining up to study Computer Science. In 2015, TCS had just 62 new students. The following year this number was doubled, while this academic year the programme is welcoming more than 400 new faces. Selection is necessary in order to safeguard the educational quality of the programme.

“Our degree programme in Technical Computer Science is very highly regarded, and up until now we always found ways to maintain our high standard of teaching and learning”, says programme director Vadim Zaytsev. “We increased the efficiency of our teaching methods and hired more lecturers, but we kept running into problems. This is a necessary step.”

UT set up this fixed quota in alignment with other universities in the Netherlands that offer computer science programmes (Delft, Eindhoven, Groningen).
