The Supervisory Board of the University of Twente has taken note of the article ‘Patiëntveiligheid? Philips ‘wil iedereen uit de weg hebben’’, that was published in Dutch newspaper NRC on 7 October. This article describes the role Jan Kimpen - currently a member of the UT Supervisory Board - is said to have played in handling the possible safety risks with sleep apnoea and respiratory equipment from Philips.
Following the publication, the Supervisory Board has engaged in a comprehensive discussion with Jan about the litigation at the time and his role. From this, a credible image emerges that, in essential points, contradicts the perception raised by the NRC article.
The SB is already familiar with this case, and it has been discussed earlier. At present, there is no reason for the Supervisory Board to take any further action.
On behalf of the Supervisory Board,
Sylvia Butzke, Chair
