How can we create a culture of open communication in academic organisations where everyone feels empowered to speak up and share critical feedback?
How can we ensure that mistakes can be safely supported but are still transparent enough to make problems visible?
We will discuss these questions with three UT colleagues:
- Stefano Stramigioli is a professor in advanced robotics and recently published a thought piece on criticism and a culture of improvement at the UT.
- Verena Menzel is a PhD candidate in cyber security, she serves as the EQUITY chair in the doctoral organization P-NUT and is a member of the UTs DE&I advisory board.
- Han Warmelink is the ombuds officer of the UT. Both students and employees can contact him for advice on issues and problem situations related to social safety.
The panelists will share their perspectives on speaking up and giving critical feedback, reflect on the situation at the UT, explore the importance but also value conflicts related to speaking up in academia and other barriers that prevent it.
