Citizen Science Conference 2022

Societal impact is increasingly central to scientific research. How does new knowledge contribute to solving major issues in society? And how can we gain knowledge that is actually beneficial for society? Scientists are motivated to put their knowledge into practice, which requires a deeper understanding of that same society. Cooperation is essential.

Citizen science strives for a deepened cooperation between scientists and stakeholders from society, in order to achieve that better understanding of societal challenges and the development of solutions that may be implemented in a sustainable way.

During the Citizen Science Conference, which will be held on Thursday 12 May, we will dive deeper into what it takes to establish a long-lasting and fruitful cooperation between science and society.

PROGRAMME

The programme of the Citizen Science Conference consists of a morning and an afternoon session.

During the morning session, which aims at employees and students from the University of Twente, a short introduction to Citizen Science at the UT will be presented, at various project teams will share the initiatives and their lessons learned.

In the afternoon session, which is open for everyone to join, various keynotes, presentations and panel discussions will be held on a variety of themes related to citizen science, for instance, education, developing and evaluating citizen science programmes, and community building. This session is particularly interesting for academics and students who are interested in the citizen science concept, policymakers involved in citizen engagement, and affiliates of all sorts of organisations that are involved in finding sustainable solutions to societal challenges.
