Title: Proactive Caching in Wireless Networks

Abstract:

This work deals with proactive caching in the base stations of a mobile network. This is motivated by several developments. First, demand for specific content can be predicted increasingly well. Second, increasing bandwidth is expensive, whereas adding storage to a base station is cheap. Third, increasingly dense deployment of base stations, enables users to connect to multiple base stations simultaneously. The idea of proactive caching is to place content in the base stations during off-peak hours in order to reduce the network load during peak hours. The challenge comes from the fact that users can request content from multiple base stations and that we need to decide on which content to store where. In this talk I will discuss the resulting optimization problem and a low-complexity asynchronous algorithm that tackles this problem.
