Last Wednesday, a delegation from the University of Twente and Radboudumc attended the University of Twente's annual TechMed Event. The purpose of the visit was to explore new collaboration opportunities as part of HealthTech Nexus, the strategic partnership between Radboudumc and the University of Twente.
The TechMed Event brings together healthcare professionals, companies, researchers, investors, talented students, administrators and healthcare organisations. Again this year, the event offered a nice palette of inspiring speakers and sessions; from chip technology, sensors and technology in drug research, to staff shortages, power of collaboration and ‘brilliant failures’.
Matchmaking
An important part of the event was HealthTech Nexus' matchmaking session, where interested parties went in search of cooperation partners. Thanks to the enthusiasm of the participants and the commitment of the matchmaking brokers, interesting conversations, lots of inspiration and actual matches soon emerged. These matches often consisted of clinically oriented questions from Radboudumc and technical, methodological or application-oriented solutions from the University of Twente.
New initiatives
Some examples of ideas that will be further developed after the meeting:
- Developing a tool for optimal bed occupancy and nurse deployment at Radboudumc, using mathematical models and capacity planning experts from UT.
- Home monitoring of the development of skin conditions using expertise in image processing and AI from UT.
- Joint development of innovative outcome measures for new drugs/therapy development
- Monitoring of children with sickle cell disease in collaboration with the Amalia Children's Hospital.
- Collaboration between an expert from UT on medical device regulation (MDR) and Radboudumc's Valorisation Department.
These collaborations will take further shape in the coming period, with professionals engaging with each other. Because of the positive aftertaste, plans are meanwhile being made for subsequent (theme-focused) matchmaking meetings.
