ITC contributes to drone test lab project UIVER

UIVER stands for Unmanned Intelligent Verification & Effective Response, and contributes to the testing and development of drones in the area of safety and security. It is financed through the European Fund for Regional Development (EFRO), specifically the Operational Program EFRO Oost-Nederland of the provinces Overijssel and Gelderland.

UIVER aims at further development, testing, demonstration and validation of three experimental safety systems based on specific scenarios of drone deployment under realistic conditions. It will support safety systems in events such as burglary, missing persons and industrial and traffic accidents. Parallel to the development of these prototype safety systems, the project also provides for the development of a drone test facility on the Twente Safety Campus. The facility will be used commercially at a subsequent stage for the further development of drones and for improving safety.

The consortium executing this project includes The University of Twente’s Faculty ITC, Saxion University of Applied Sciences, Drone Flight Company, Incaa Computers, DRONExpert, RJ Safety & Security, Veiligheidsregio Twente, Politie Oost Nederland, Ambulance East Netherlands, GGD Twente, Robor Electronics, State of Motion, and Twinx. The project receives a subsidy amount of almost 600,000 Euro, while the total project costs amount to approximately 1.5 million Euro.

ITC contributes to the development of use cases in relation to accidents at industrial facilities, but also the locating or illegal drug labs, bringing in expertise in advanced photogrammetry, computer vision and machine learning. We cooperate on this especially with the Police and Saxion. The project began in late 2018 and will run for 3.5 years.
