There is a realistic chance that the Executive Board will decide on a university-wide organisational change in the coming period. The EB announced this this morning during the University Council's plenary meeting.
In the national budget, cuts to higher education are slowly taking shape. Nationwide, more than a billion euros will be cut. These budget cuts have major consequences for the University of Twente, as these cuts are expected to result in a financial challenge of around ten to fifteen per cent for the university. This is so drastic on top of already existing austerity measures, that there is a realistic possibility that a university-wide organisational change will have to be implemented. The cuts can then no longer be absorbed by small adjustments.
In the coming weeks, it should become clear what the process of possible organisational change should look like. The Executive Board will involve the faculties and service departments in this process, and will continue discussions with the University Council on this subject.
