Recently, the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science presented the draft bill Internationalisation in Balance. This bill introduces tools for a better grip on internationalisation. The rules for providing higher education in Dutch and a language other than Dutch will be adjusted. In addition, institutions are given the possibility to set numerus fixus in a more targeted way.
In recent weeks, this draft bill has been open for consultation. Interested parties could give their views on the proposal through a reaction. Last Friday, the period for submitting a reaction closed.
In reaction, the University of Twente also expressed its criticism of the bill. We understand the idea behind the bill, but draw attention to the feasibility. UT asks the ministry to pay more attention to the differences between universities and regions than is currently the case.
With its response, UT joins the views submitted by the joint technical universities in 4TU, and umbrella organisation Universities of the Netherlands.
