Design: the woman as norm

Almost everything we use in everyday life uses the average man as a standard. Not just height and weight standards (think of the dolls in car crash testing), but also how a person moves around a room and feels comfortable. What would the world look like if we used ‘the woman’ as a norm, and who is ‘the woman’ anyway? Danique Hofstee (UT/Saxion) has been researching how women visually represent their bodies in order to better align the image of women with what women themselves experience. Carmen Heuvelmans (UT) investigates, among other things, how hospital interiors affect female patients.

Moderator: Linda Hiemstra (Saxion).
