'Look after your friend'-training Training for students about student wellbeing

Your time as a student can be a lot of fun but it can also be difficult sometimes. A lot of students who experience problems regarding their wellbeing, such as stress, depression or anxiety, first turn to their friends to talk about it before talking to anyone else. Of course, you also want to be there for your friends and this might be difficult sometimes. A situation might raise certain questions, such as:

  •  ‘How can I help my friend without letting it affect myself too much?’
  •  ‘How can I listen to someone in a way that makes them feel heard?’
  • ‘What does that diagnosis actually mean?’

To help students in answering these questions, a training has been set up by the psychologists of the UT, in collaboration with the SU.

Content

The training consists of 2 sessions of both 1,5 hours, which are complementing and can therefore not be followed separately. During these two sessions, the following topics will be discussed:

  •  Practical tips on looking after your friend
  • Supporting a friend through the student journey
  •  Understanding your friend’s diagnosis
  • Knowing your services: getting professional help in- and outside of the UT

Furthermore, participants will receive an extensive guide with information and tips on how to look after their friends and themselves.
