Travel to space? Explore infinity? Questioning the universe?
Students of Creative Technology of the University of Twente got ‘Intergalactic’ inspiration for this year’s installations that will be presented at the GOGBOT festival at different locations in the center of Enschede. The first year groups invite to experience their work from 7 - 10 September 2017 at the UT CreaTe Expo within the festival. GOGBOT festival is the annual showcase for creative technology, electronic music and contemporary art, this year following the theme ‘Intergalactic’.
The students present their installations in the Melkhal (Coberco) and the Menistenkerk. In the dark and spacious Melkhal visitors can experience an audiovisual experience questioning if the universe is a simulation. ´You have to experience it yourself to understand,’ says Fredrika Åström, project member of The Glitch_ which will be open from 18:00 till 22:00 on Thursday. The other interactive and inspiring installations of the UT students invite to participate at the Menistenkerk from 20:00. ‘In our project you can travel to space with the help of virtual reality,’ explains Janneke Kroes who works in the project group Bus Lightyear. Yoann Latzer's group installs Infinity 4, a box filled with "mirrows and a musical virtual liveshow with infinity experience."
The presenting groups are selected nominees for the UT CreaTe Award which supports the best of art and creative technology talents in the Netherlands. During the official opening on Thursday 7 September (20:00 main stage Oude Markt) a jury will announce the winner of the award which includes winning a thousand euros.
GOGBOT and the Creative Technology department have a longer history together. The UT teacher Marielle Stoelinga is the driving force behind this collaboration. ‘My students have the freedom to create their installations all by themselves and put everything in it that they think is important for them.’ According to Marielle, the students do have a high goodwill factor of the public: ‘GOGBOT is an impressive and very public friendly multimedia festival.’
