NIKOS 15 YEARS ANNIVERSARY
From patents to insights: Lessons from 15 years of semantic patent analysis
Martin Moehrle
Patents may become a valuable asset, especially for start-up companies, but also a threat (if owned by other companies). For this reason, it is important to use them as information source. In addition to electronic search techniques, a lot of manual work is needed to get insights from them. Semantic analysis has been used at the IPMI since 15 years and has proven to be a helpful means for accessing the information in patents more precisely and faster. In this lecture, Prof. Moehrle will outline some basics of semantic patent analysis and present a multitude of application examples.
