Festive opening of the Tech4people Lab

On Thursday 31 March from 15:30, the festive opening of the new Tech4People Lab of the Faculty of Behavioural, Management and Social Sciences will take place on the University of Twente campus. The Lab’s initiators are Professor Ellen Giebels and Professor Peter-Paul Verbeek. Professor Giebels: “Using new technology, we are able to amass more unique and rich data on human behaviour and social connections.  The knowledge we gain from this allows us to innovate within our own disciplines and contribute more to the search for multidisciplinary solutions to complex social issues by combining our social and technological strengths.”

Working together with the DesignLab

The lab has access to a wealth of new technologies for the collection, analysis and visualization of data. During the opening, visitors can wander around and view several interactive demonstrations while enjoying a drink and a snack. The new technological lab is located in the University of Twente DesignLab. Professor Giebels: “The creativity and interaction with other disciplines within the DesignLab contribute to the development of the Tech4People Lab and to finding creative answers to questions prevalent in society. The DesignLab is intended to serve as a platform for these types of initiatives. We feel very welcome.”

Opening by Rector Magnificus Professor Ed Brinksma

Ed Brinksma will officially open the Faculty of BMS’s new technological lab around 16:00. Scientists will demonstrate the use of various ‘tools’ and new technology such as the eyetracker glasses, Virtual Reality equipment, the iCub robot and Xsens suits during the opening. These suits are covered in sensors and measuring equipment that can register even the slightest movement. There will also be an opportunity to visit the room of interaction. This room has been set up to record and analyse behaviour. There is a sociometric badge to identify and map collaboration. This device can measure speaking time, pitch, interruptions and body language.
