student experience

Gerben Morsink

I had already finished a Master´s degree in Applied Physics when I started on the Innovation and Entrepreneurship track in the Business Administration MSc programme.

I’ve always had a keen interest in a wide variety of courses. During my Bachelor´s in Applied Physics I was also interested in Business Administration. My mentor told me about the opportunity to do a pre-Master’s in Business Administration as my minor, and that’s when I decided to do a double Master’s.

I chose Business Administration because I was especially interested in the internship for my final thesis. I figured that I wanted to go on my internship at a company, to see how business trials work. At the moment I am doing my internship at Pentair in Enschede, where I am working with the Director of Global Sales and Head of Marketing, Strategy and Integration.

Besides being a student I am also an athlete in equestrian sports in Beuningen, a village near Enschede. I wanted to stay near Beuningen while studying, which is why I chose the University of Twente in the first place. During my studies I have discovered that the University of Twente provides an excellent atmosphere for personal and academic development.

Combining sports with a Master’s programme requires careful planning. The university has an arrangement for elite athletes allowing us a degree of flexibility in scheduling, so that we can get the most out of our studies while engaging in our sporting passion.

In the future I would like to combine riding with work. However, this will limit my career options in the business world.
