"I WAS PARTICULARLY INTERESTED IN THE OPPORTUNITY TO SPECIALISE IN HR AND ITS RELATIONSHIP WITH EMERGING TECHNOLOGIES, SUCH AS AI."

“Hello! I'm Giorgio, and I am currently pursuing my PhD here at the University of Twente. After completing my bachelor's in Business Administration at the University of L'Aquila, I decided to pursue further studies. I enrolled in a double degree programme between my former university and UT, which marked the beginning of an enriching academic adventure.

I was particularly interested in the opportunity to specialise in HR and its relationship with emerging technologies, such as AI and social robots. This is why I chose this double programme with the University of L’Aquila and University of Twente, in addition to the appeal of the city of Enschede!

Two master’s programmes

My journey began in L'Aquila, where I completed the first year of my master's degree by taking specialized courses in management. The curriculum provided a thorough understanding of International Business Administration, laying a strong foundation for my future pursuits. I had the opportunity to follow courses like Applied International Economics, Leadership Skills and Organizational Behaviour, and Statistics for Businesses and Economics. I was particularly interested in the opportunity to specialise in HR and its relationship with emerging technologies, such as AI and social robots. This is why I chose this double programme with the University of L’Aquila and University of Twente, in addition to the appeal of the city of Enschede!

Enrolling in the HRM course at UT proved to be a transformative experience, allowing me to delve deep into the intricacies of the HR field while embracing innovative technological advancements. The program not only honed my skills but also provided me with invaluable insights into the evolving landscape of HR practices in the digital era. I had the opportunity to follow courses like Global Talent Management, HRM and Technology Design, and HRM & Analytics.

Living in Italy

As part of a double degree programme, I spent one year in Enschede and another in L'Aquila. With its vibrant academic community, I immediately felt Enschede as a second home. However, my heart remains tied to L'Aquila. One of the things I appreciate most about L'Aquila is its geographical diversity. In a short drive, you can go from skiing in the Apennines- such as Campo Felice, during the winter- to enjoying the beautiful coastline of the Adriatic Sea. However, besides its scenic beauty, it is the warmth and hospitality of the locals that truly set L'Aquila apart. Every moment spent in this enchanting city is a testament to its welcoming spirit, from indulging in delectable culinary delights to forging lasting friendships.

A small reflection

Reflecting on my academic journey across Italy and the Netherlands, I am grateful for the valuable experiences and knowledge gained. Each city, from L'Aquila to Enschede, has left a lasting impression on my academic and personal growth, shaping me into the scholar I am today. Cheers to the countless memories, friendships, and endless possibilities ahead. As I continue my academic journey, I carry with me the lessons learned and experiences cherished. I am forever grateful for the transformative journey that began in L'Aquila and continues in Enschede.”
