Courses and study facilities for employees

Inspiring education, ground-breaking research and relevant innovation

are all at the heart of what we find important at the UT. Every day, more than 3,000 academics and other professionals work hard to maintain these core values. As the UT is part of the constantly and rapidly changing international academic environment, it is important that our members of staff continue to develop themselves, for example to be able to provide education in keeping with modern standards or to draw up a grant application likely to lead to a successful outcome. To this end, the UT has developed a broad range of courses and training programmes for both academics and support staff. According to the collective labour agreement (CAO) for the Dutch universities, every employee receives at least two development days per year for personal development.

  • UT & Futurelearn Campus Program News

A test in 2021 of “FutureLearn Campus” and Single Sign On for the Futurelearn Platform has recently been completed and finalized. This allows participating partner organizations, including the University of Twente, to open up any short courses that they have already created on the FutureLearn platform for free to their current students and staff. So not only can we make use of our own courses as and when we wish, we can also include those created by other institutions who have joined the “FutureLearn Campus” program. Currently that means we have more than 417 courses available for our students and staff.
Sharing resources in this way is a fantastic opportunity to present specialist courses for the benefit of more learners, and also to reduce the duplication of standard courses that all institutions offer in some shape or form.  Utilizing FutureLearn campus also means we can monitor our students progression and experience on our own courses using the Learner manager tool.

    Important
To gain unlimited access to the courses available through FutureLearn campus students and staff are required to use the ‘sign in with you organisation’ option to sign into the FutureLearn platform, which you can find on https://www.futurelearn.com. If you already have a Futurelearn account with your UT email address, this will be merged to one account after signing in with your organization.
If you have an account made with a private email address, than this will be a separate account besides your organization account.

If you have any questions regarding the Futurelearn Campus Program or Single Sign On, please feel free to contact us at Telt@utwente.nl

Study facilities

Following a study, training programme or course can be an important impetus to the development of your career. The University of Twente has the vision that a faculty or service department should spend at least two percent of the total wages and salaries on training and development of its staff members.

DOING A COURSE ON INSTRUCTION

If your immediate superior instructs you to do a course, you are obliged to do this and are entitled to study leave and compensation of study costs. Study leave is at any rate granted for attending lectures and participating in examinations. Study costs, such as course and examination fees and the purchase of study material, are fully compensated. Travelling and accommodation costs are also compensated, in accordance with the Compensation Scheme Business Trips University of Twente. Your faculty or service department can also decide to make available more generous facilities in the sense of time or money, for example if the lectures are held outside working hours.

DOING A COURSE ON REQUEST

You, too, can submit a request for compensation of study time and/or costs to the administrator of your faculty or service department at all times. This can be for a training programme in the context of your present job or a training programme in the context of your further career. Your faculty or service department subsequently assesses whether or not you receive a compensation for study time and costs. A personal development plan may be useful in fitting in and making a reasonable case for the training programme of your choice. If the faculty or service department consents to your choice, it is advisable to lay down together the mutual rights and obligations in a study contract.
