In March, the UT halted all travel abroad following the rapid spread of Covid-19 across the globe. From March onwards, the travel advice of the Dutch national authorities continuously changed and airline operators discontinued a vast majority of their services. For that, the risk of getting stranded abroad and health risks were too high.
As of 15 June, the Dutch national authorities have updated their travel advice, and also other countries have started to do so. Travel advice for several countries has been scaled down from orange to yellow, meaning travelling is allowed though safety risks still exist.
In line with our standard regulations, travelling is now allowed again for countries with green or yellow status. You can check the status via the website of the Dutch national authorities, www.nederlandwereldwijd.nl. Please keep in mind that you will need to inform yourself adequately on specific requirements and regulations for specific countries before travelling.
UT policy on sustainable travelling
The University of Twente is determined to reduce its CO₂ footprint. Therefore, we have set ourselves ambitious goals for minimising our carbon emissions. Please note that for trips up to 800 km distance, the train is the preferred mode of transport. Also, we encourage you to consider whether travel is necessary, or if there are other (online) alternatives that support the collaboration and contact with others abroad.
