TNW Faculty announces reorganisation

Currently, the various units of the University of Twente are working on their budget for 2025. The financial frameworks for this are set out in the Spring Memorandum, which was adopted before the summer. During this process, the TNW faculty board concluded that achieving a balanced budget for the upcoming year is not possible without a formal reorganisation. The faculty board informed the staff about this today. In the coming weeks, more about the follow-up process and its implications should be made clear.

The message to the faculty staff:

Dear colleagues,

As you are likely aware, UT is facing major challenges this academic year, not only because of the ongoing financial crisis but also because of the uncertainty about the new government's decisions, which affect us all.

As a faculty, we are facing a budget deficit for the fourth consecutive year. Also, for the coming years, we are confronted with a structural deficit of more than 8 million euros (10% of our first money stream) and the task of rectifying it. Unfortunately, this is not possible without a formal reorganization.

The decision to reorganize has not been easy. We are devastated to have to do this but realize after broad consultation that there is no alternative.

In the coming weeks, we will share with you more information and the criteria that will be used to make choices . Moreover, we will elaborate further on our decision to reorganize TNW during the upcoming S&T Dialogue on September 24.

We want to involve you in this process and count on your input and support to carry it out responsibly. As such, your cooperation regarding the already announced cost-saving measures implemented by both the faculty and UT remains crucial, so that we can minimize the magnitude of the reorganization.

We understand that this message may raise questions and uncertainty. Talk to your supervisor about this. We are always available to answer questions.

We thank you for your understanding and continued commitment during these challenging times.

On behalf of the Faculty Board,
Jennifer Herek, Dean
Jan-Willem Timmerman, Managing Director
