Dear Carré staff,
My name is Imre Kersting, and I am currently participating in the Minor Energy Transition Challenges. With the holiday season just around the corner, this is the perfect opportunity for us to contribute to a more sustainable campus while also reducing unnecessary energy costs.
I am working on a project to reduce standby energy consumption and energy waste, and I need your help!
How can you help?
Before heading off for the holidays, I kindly ask you to:
- Completely turn off non-essential devices and unplug them where possible. This includes monitors, chargers, printers, and other electronic devices.
- Switch off any unused devices entirely, as many still consume energy in standby mode (phantom load).
Just like you wouldn’t leave all your lights on at home while you’re away, we can apply the same principle here in the Carré building. With a few small actions, we can make a big impact together!
Why is this important?
With these simple actions, we can:
- Significantly reduce energy waste.
- Contribute to a more sustainable campus.
- Measure the impact of our collective efforts to save energy during the holidays.
What will be done with the results?
During the holiday period, we will monitor energy usage in the Carré building and compare it with regular weeks. This will give us insights into how much energy can be saved collectively and how we can further improve in the future.
Questions, ideas, or feedback?
Feel free to reach out to me at I.w.kersting@student.utwente.nl. I’m open to suggestions and happy to answer any questions. Thank you for your cooperation in making Carré more energy-efficient. Together, we can make a big difference!
Best regards,
Imre Kersting
