Last week, the organisers of the demonstration against the budget cuts in higher education had to make a last-minute decision to cancel the demonstration. It was due to take place in Utrecht last Thursday, 14 November. From all over the country, many thousands of employees, students and other sympathisers had planned to take part in the demonstration. However, due to possible security risks, it did not go ahead.
New date: 25 November
A new protest date has since been announced: Monday, 25 November, in The Hague. Learn more through the news item on the AOb union website.
We expect more information about this action in the coming week. We will also update you on our service portal and website about this, including what rules and guidelines apply at UT around the protest.
Actions across the country
Although the national action did not take place, protests, demonstrations and other gatherings were held at various places around the country. Also, at the University of Twente. More than 200 staff and students gathered on the R&D square. There, several speeches were held, and protest songs were sung. Rector Tom Veldkamp was also present and expressed his support in the fight against the budget cuts and emphasised how important it is to stand together in this. Afterwards, a walk-out across the campus started.
