As of 1 June 2022, the Executive Board has appointed Peter Smits as Director of the Campus & Facility Management service department. He succeeds Pim Fij, who was Director of the facilities department as of October 2015 and continued in the position of Director of the CFM department. He recently said his farewells to the UT.
Peter Smits is currently Director of the Brainport Human Campus in Helmond. Before that, he held various positions in the facility management and real estate domain. In 2018, for example, he was Real Estate and Facilities manager of the Driessen Group. In 2013 he became Director of KUB Career Services of Tilburg University, where he also held the position of Facility Manager from 2008 untill 2014. A similar position he previously held for four years at the University of Groningen.
The appointment committee is unanimously positive about Peter Smits and recognizes in him a people-oriented and enthusiastic personality. Machteld Roos says: "We see in Peter a connector with an eye for the challenges that both the CFM department itself and the university are facing. He is an expert in the field of campus and facility management. Furthermore, Peter brings a fresh perspective and is complementary to the management team of the service department and to the entire directors’ team within the UT."
Peter Smits himself about his appointment: "I look forward to working with all the staff of CFM, other colleagues and UT students and to further strengthening and developing the beautiful campus and facilities. During my recent visits, I have been impressed by the green campus and all sports and cultural facilities. But especially also by the ambitions of the university and the enthusiasm of everyone I have spoken to!"
