Fake email message on climate situation and climate assembly

Earlier today, several staff members and students received an email titled "IMPORTANT Climate Emergency & Assembly". The email talks about declaring a climate emergency and holding a climate assembly. Although the email shows that this is not a genuine message from the Executive Board of the University of Twente, not everyone may have recognised it as a fake.

As the Executive Board, we endorse the importance of taking sustainability measures, but we strongly disapprove of this way of distributing information to employees and students.

We are currently investigating how the sender managed to collect such a large number of staff and student email addresses unauthorised. There are currently no signs that this is the result of a hack. Also, the email sent does not contain any links that could pose a cyber risk.

If we have more information, we will inform you via the employee portal and student portal.
