Mirjam Bult nominated as a member of the Council of State

Vice-President of the Executive Board of the University of Twente, Mirjam Bult, has been nominated by the Council of Ministers, as a member of the Advisory Division of the Council of State. The Government Information Service Department and the Council of State announced this today. The Advisory Division advises the government and Parliament on legislation and governance. After the formal appointment by the King, this means that Mirjam Bult will become a member of the Council of State and will leave the University of Twente, as of 1 September.

Anton Schaaf, Chairman of the Supervisory Board: “The Supervisory Board is very proud that a highly appreciated UT Board member is being nominated for this honourable position. It is also an important appreciation for the region and for the UT that someone with good knowledge of our ecosystem is allowed to hold such a position in The Hague. It is a special circumstance that we recently announced the departure of Victor van der Chijs and now have to announce the departure of our Vice-President Mirjam Bult, shortly afterwards. However, the UT is perfectly capable to accommodate these administrative changes, due to the development phase in which the university finds itself in. Mirjam will remain affiliated with the UT until September. So according to plan, together with the Rector Magnificus, she will temporarily take over the President’s related responsibilities. As the Supervisory Board, we ensure that all future plans for the UT remain in place and will be fully implemented.”

Mirjam Bult herself about her nomination: “I am preparing myself for a new kind of contribution to society, in the knowledge that the UT is a professional and resilient organisation that makes a difference and can deal with changes in the Board excellently. I hold the UT colleagues and students in my heart forever. Until my farewell, I will continue my unrelenting commitment to our university and after that I will remain a proud member of the UT community.”

The Supervisory Board will combine the procedure for the succession of the Vice-President with the procedure for the succession of the President, to be started in the short term.
