GGD Twente to open testing location on University of Twente campus

GGD Twente (the regional health services) is opening an ‘L’ testing location on the University of Twente campus. The location will contain 10 testing lines and test residents for the coronavirus using the PCR test and the antigen test (the rapid test). Construction of the location will soon begin on the recently completed P3 car park, with the first tests expected to be performed at the end of December. With the addition of this new location, test results will be obtained more quickly.

The construction of the ‘L’ testing location — L stands for large — is a collaboration between GGD Twente, Enschede municipality, and the University of Twente. The opening is part of the plan to expand and intensify the response to COVID-19 throughout the country. The intention is also to use the ‘L’ testing location to provide vaccinations once the vaccine becomes available.

PCR TEST AND ANTIGEN TEST

10 testing lines will be available for use at this ‘L’ testing location. PCR tests and antigen tests will be performed. The eight other testing locations in Twente make use of the PCR test. The antigen test is also called the rapid test because the results are obtained more quickly. GGD Twente will perform the antigen test that has been approved by the National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM). Just as is done for the PCR test, contact tracing will be started in the event of a positive test result.
