Twente Graduate School introduces Hora Finita to replace ProDoc

Dear Colleague,

Following the outcome of a tender procedure the Executive Board has signed a purchase order for the acquisition of a new PhD monitoring system “Hora Finita” for our university in order to replace the current ProDoc system after the expiry of its license period.

  • The new PhD monitoring and graduation system HoraFinita will replace ProDoc at the end of 2018.
  • Hora Finita has proven itself in practice for several years now, and it is implemented (or being implemented) at 6 Dutch universities.
  • Improvements with regards to ProDoc include user friendliness, planning tools for PhDs, better overview for supervisors to track the status of their PhDs, options to delegate certain tasks, and reporting capabilities for Faculties.
  • Until the system is officially deployed, PhD candidates must continue to use ProDoc. Supervisors have to continue to mail their reports (qualifier, annual reviews) to prodoc@utwente.nl.
  • The ProDoc data and files will be imported into HoraFinita. All users will be able to attend training sessions. The final timeline will be announced later.
  • With the changeover from ProDoc to Hora Finita there will be no difference in the way the regulations2 apply to PhD candidates and their supervisors.

As a long-time user, I am convinced that Hora Finita offers good functionality and is easy to use. I wish the implementation team success. Finally let me express my support for all PhD candidates: most of you are at the start of your career, working hard to earn the highest academic degree, the Doctorate. This tool offers a structured approach to manage the progress of your PhD research and to track your doctoral education.

Yours sincerely,

prof.dr. T.T.M. Palstra

Rector Magnificus
