On the Vietnamese Teacher’s Day, Tom Aarnink has received an Honorable State Award for his outstanding contribution to the educational development of Vietnam. Tom has contributed to the installation and operation of the semiconductor laboratory ITIMS in Hanoi. This originated in a project set out in 1992 by employees of the University of Twente and the University of Amsterdam, aided by a NUFFIC subsidy. After the project ended, Tom has maintained the cooperation through annual visits. Since 2003, the KWT (Komitee Wetenschap en Techniek) has financially supported Toms travels to Vietnam. By now he has given tutorials on microfabrication basics to over 350 Vietnamese students, some of which have subsequently obtained their PhDs at the UT or the UvA. We congratulate Tom with this major achievement!
