Freek van der Meer and Erna Leurink are appointed as duo board members of the Platform for International Education (PIE). Their appointment was confirmed at the annual general assembly of PIE, held in the Utrecht on 1 December 2015.
PIE promotes activities of the Dutch Institutes for post-secondary education in the field of institutional strengthening of education and research capacity in developing countries and countries in transition, through education, research and consultancy for students, staff and mid-career professionals.
It is the mission of PIE to bring together and support all those institutions that endorse this vision and to identify opportunities to contribute to the realization of successful cooperation with the Global South.
As such PIE organizes regular meetings and seminars but also is a voice for capacity development in fora of Nuffic, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Education (amongst others) where the future of international cooperation in education is discussed.
In total 23 Netherlands institutes of higher education at various levels (university, university of applied science, polytechnic) are a member of PIE. As such PIE represents a work field of over 30.000 employees and many more students.
