UT spin-off SecurityMatters new supplier for Boeing Growth expected through collaboration with companies in the field of cybersecurity

Aircraft manufacturer Boeing has shown an interest in the monitoring and security system of the UT spin-off company SecurityMatters. Six years after founding the company, they have landed an important client with this deal. The security system is called SilentDefense ICS and is deployed by Boeing Information Solutions, a sister company of The Boeing Company.

SilentDefense ICS

SilentDefense ICS is a system that tracks down cyberattacks and ensures the monitoring and security of information systems of industrial networks, companies, financial institutions and government organizations. In addition, it supplies the user with detailed information about the safety of a network. "Contrary to other systems, SilentDefense automatically learns how a particular network 'works' and generates a - as we call it - 'behaviour blueprint'. This is an exact picture which can be used for the assessment, or for continuous monitoring of a network," explains Damiano Bolzoni, one of the founders of SecurityMatters. The fact that the system works automatically saves a lot of time and money.

SecurityMatters

SecurityMatters was founded in 2008 by a group of University of Twente researchers (Centre for Telematics and Information Technology, CTIT). Fifteen employees work for the relatively young company, at locations in Europe and the United States. SecurityMatters expects to continue to grow in 2014 through collaborations with worldwide players in the field of cybersecurity. In 2011, SecurityMatters was nominated for the Young Technology Award, and they won the COMMIT Wetenschapsvalorisatieprijs (an award for an individual or a group of people who has or have managed to turn results of Dutch academic ICT research into a successful economic or societal useful application) in 2012. "The fact that Boeing came all the way to the Netherlands to collaborate with our company says a lot about our product and our business. We are of course extremely proud of all the members of our team," says Bolzoni.
