On Saturday, 5 October in Enschede, the University of Twente and Saxion will show just how fun, important and interesting science and technology are. As part of the Weekend of Science at both education institutes, you can enjoy several guided tours and lectures and actively take part in various demonstrations and workshops.
University of Twente
During the Open House at the University of Twente, there will be countless demonstrations, lectures and tours from 11:00-16:00. A demonstration will be given of the 'exoskeleton', a kind of robot suit that makes it possible for even paraplegics to walk. Have you ever seen a lie detector? If not, now's your chance! Or pull on a lab coat and take a tour of the Nano, Robotics, or Virtual Reality Lab! Would you prefer to take in an interesting lecture? You can hear all about nanotechnology from professor Blank or learn something new from professor Steenbergen's lecture about breast cancer research. Sporty people can work off a little steam in diverse workshops like zumba, spinning and yoga.
October 5 is also National Chemistry Day, and the reason for the special focus on small chemical tests and experiments for all ages.
Saxion
At Saxion on the M.H. Tromplaan in Enschede, young and old alike will discover a wealth of technological possibilities. Not only do we let everyone view this wealth of technology, we also let visitors experience it. Experience the magical world of modern technology for yourself! Follow the discovery route through our main building and perform experiments in our test lab. Control a drone or a virtual car, or develop your own app. Discover how to print food, how future hospitals and nursing homes will have all the latest technical devices... and much, much more. The treasure houses are open from 12.00-16.00.
LEGO Solar Race Twente
The Lego Solar Race Twente also takes place on this day in the Waaier building on the UT campus. The race starts at 14:00. Primary school pupils from across Twente have designed a solar car using kits from LEGO Education. Who has built the most surprising car, and, above all: who is the fastest? The grand finale starts at 16.00.
