As from the academic year 2012-2013, the University of Twente will enforce an institution-wide Binding Recommendation (BR) of 45 ECs. The Bachelor programmes Mechanical Engineering and Civil Engineering have been given a 1-year reprieve and will enforce the BR as from 2013-2014. The BR implies that students will not be able to continue their studies if they receive less than 45 ECs in their first year. The main intention of the BR is for students to find their right direction more quickly. It is the UT’s opinion that if a student has earned insufficient course credits, this is not the right study for him/her. There are currently five Bachelor programmes which are already enforcing a BR, namely Applied Physics, Chemical Engineering, Communication Studies, Psychology and Educational Science.
