Prof. Willem Vos of the MESA+ research group Complex Photonic Systems (COPS) has been elected to be a Fellow of the Optical Society of America (OSA). He is one out of only 66 individuals among OSA’s regular members to be distinguished during the current yearly cycle. Election to Fellow is based on outstanding contributions to optics through accomplishments in science and engineering, through technical leadership, and through impact on the optics community.
Vos is being recognized for seminal contributions, both theoretical and experimental, to the understanding of light propagation and emission in random and periodic media.
OSA Fellows are selected based on nominations from current Fellow members. OSA’s Fellow Members Committee recommends candidates each year to the Board of Directors. The number of Fellows is limited to no more than 10 percent of total OSA membership (more than 16,000 individuals from over 100 countries).
